A Generation of Debris

In the world we live, we are so tied up with traditions that we forget to look at the present and foretell the future. Our ancestors were always looking towards the present to mould their surroundings and predicted the future with precision.

The future of our world are our children, unfortunately, we the adults are not doing good to groom them into the champions of the future. We are looking at the past and refuse to let them grow into the future.

Our Education system is so old, that the technology that has changed our lives is not taken into consideration when educating them. The methods used in teaching force a child to learn by rote and not by understanding the concepts for application in their daily lives. We are more worried of what our neighbour’s child will be achieving rather than focusing on the strengths of our own child.

The Gurukul system that was prevalent in India, 2000 years ago always emphasised on the need for a child to discover themselves and then to discover the world. Ask yourself, you would know of all the knowledge that exists in the world from technology, current affairs, geography, history, sciences, et all. But if I were to ask you to describe yourself what would that take to pen it down?

Till date I have not met an individual who would have this answer ready on their finger tips or aware of their own personality and character. They think, and think, and think more before they could utter a word about themselves.

Just imagine what your child would be going through. They were born just 5 years, 8 years, 12 years, 16 years into the world and we have been forcing them to learn about the rest of the world except for themselves. This leads them to take drastic steps like suicide, self-torture and get ailments like depression, anxiety, fear and many more mental anguishes.

Added to this, we ask them to study, but have you ever taken the time to teach them how to learn new concepts? Remember their age and time spent on this planet as compared to you. What you have learnt in the past 20, 30, 40 or 60 years they are just digging into the pit and learning. Don’t be alarmed if they are not able to learn, you are the cause, the problem. Now become the solution.

Learning is a method that some can pick easily and some need guidance, they are students who are termed as slow learners, or ADHD or ADD, tags that need not be given to children. The various psychometric tests categorise children into a band that may or may not be them individually. Remember, 98% of all psychometric tests in India are based on sample data of American and European Children. None of them are based out of India and taking the Indian Demographics into consideration. Are you giving your child the opportunity to assess themselves correctly? Are you assessing your child for their benefit or for your neighbours envy?

All said, the children are the path of the future. We as parents have a responsibility. They did not chose to be born into this planet, we chose to give them birth to have them around us to fill our lives with joy. Would you want to be the cause of the torture and pain on your own child. If yes, then please meet a counsellor or psychologist near you, You definitely need help!

If no, then you are not doing a good job. You are causing stress in a life that never asked for it. You are following a principle of education that outdates your parents and your age together. Why would you want to follow such a ridiculous discipline?

Home schooling is catching up in India and is forming a very good character building and innovation structure for the children. I have met many children who have been home schooled and they have bloomed into glorious citizens of this country and earth. They are able to face the challenges in life with more vigour and are more grounded than the children who have attended a formal education system.

You have a chance, make the change today and see the seed that you planted bloom into a wonderful flower and become an example for society at large to follow.
